Completing HMRC Inheritance Tax Forms

If you have decided to apply for the Grant of Probate yourself, we can assist you by completing the HMRC Inheritance Tax Forms and helping with any enquiries that HMRC may have. Once you have received the Grant of Probate, you and your family will be able to start the process of estate administration.

How do I apply for Grant of Probate?

To apply for Grant of Probate, you’ll need to register the death within 5 days of it taking place by contacting the registry office. Once you have received the Certificate of Registration of Death, it will be time to evaluate the assets of the deceased person and value the estate. This step is extremely important as it will help you make decisions that affect Inheritance Tax (IHT). You’ll then need to file an application for a Grant of Probate with the Probate Registry but before that, we will complete and submit the Inheritance Tax Forms (and schedules) for the Estate with HMRC and deal with any enquiries they might have.

How much inheritance tax will I need to pay?

This depends on the size of the estate and what IHT reliefs you have available. You usually must pay Inheritance Tax on estates if they are valued over £325,000 (for a single person) or £650,000 (for a married couple). If the estate exceeds these values, you will need to arrange paying Inheritance Tax – but don’t worry, our probate specialists will take care of everything.
